Big wins for Nigerian teachers—cash rewards, cars, houses, and a new national training platform to raise the bar in classrooms.
The Federal Government has rewarded Nigeria’s overall best teacher, Taiwo Solanke, with ₦50 million, celebrating excellence, innovation and dedication to teaching. The announcement came at the Nigeria Teachers’ Summit 2026 in Abuja, where First Lady Oluremi Tinubu also unveiled EduRevamp, a new national teacher development programme.
Solanke’s night got even better: a brand-new car from Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum and a fully furnished two-bedroom flat from Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun.
Calling teachers the “quiet architects of great nations,” Mrs Tinubu said restoring dignity to the profession is central to the Renewed Hope Agenda, stressing that quality education begins with motivated, well-supported teachers.
Education Minister Dr Tunji Alausa added that 12 outstanding teachers from the six geopolitical zones will also receive ₦25 million each, selected through a transparent, merit-based process.
He announced EduRevamp as a shift from attendance-based training to performance and measurable outcomes, alongside new tools like the Ignite digital platform, Diaspora Bridge for STEMM, and 60,000 tablets for teachers nationwide.
government says strong teachers mean a stronger Nigeria and it’s putting serious money behind that promise.
