Contractors warn of protests as unpaid bills strain families and livelihoods.
Contractors working on FCTA projects have urged Minister Nyesom Wike to settle over N5.2 billion owed, saying delayed payments are causing severe hardships.
Speaking at a news conference in Abuja, Adebola Benson, Chairman of Indigenous Contractors, said many members are struggling to provide for families, with some reportedly falling ill or even dying from stress.
Committee member Rufai Mosuwa noted that projects are mostly completed with certificates submitted, yet payment has stalled. “We’ve written to President Tinubu, the FCT Senator, Senate and House committees, even the DSS, but no response,” he said.
Martins Ezendu, a board member, warned that continued delay may spark protests, urging urgent intervention to ease the financial and social strain on contractors.
