Silence is no longer the only option.
The United Nations Association of Africa (UNAA) has launched two help desk helplines — 08000333333 and 08028761406 — to support victims of violence against women and girls across Nigeria.
Unveiled in Lagos during activities marking the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, the initiative aims to boost reporting, protection and rapid response for survivors.
UNAA President-General, Sylvester Okafor, said gender-based violence remains a widespread human rights abuse that cuts across culture and class, threatening peace, development and social stability. He stressed that ending violence against women is key to achieving SDG 5 on gender equality.
Keynote speaker Prof. Iyiola Oni of the University of Lagos called for a united response—combining education, strong laws, community action and survivor support—while urging men and boys to be active allies.
Rave TV CEO Agatha Amata encouraged girls to embrace self-worth, independence and confidence, reminding them that their value lies in purpose, not relationships.
