With passenger numbers set to rise, MMA2 is moving early to avoid the usual airport stress.
Bi-Courtney Aviation Services Ltd., operator of the Murtala Muhammed Airport Terminal Two (MMA2), has kicked off strategic engagements with airline partners to improve passenger experience ahead of expected traffic growth in 2026.
According to Remi Jibodu, Acting COO and Head of Aeronautical and Cargo Services, the talks began with management visits to United Nigeria Airlines, Aero Contractors and ValueJet, focusing on how to keep operations smooth as demand rises.
He said immediate plans include mobile check-in counters during peak hours, stronger crowd control, and more hands on security and baggage handling. Medium-term measures will introduce an IATA-aligned slot coordination system to better balance flight schedules with terminal capacity.
Other upgrades on the table include self-check-in kiosks, apron decongestion, improved aircraft parking discipline, progressive apron fees, and baggage system enhancements. MMA2 also plans a digital platform for real-time operational updates to improve coordination among stakeholders.
To tackle traffic outside the terminal, Bi-Courtney is engaging FRSC and LASAMTA to manage road congestion during peak travel periods.
Airline executives welcomed the discussions. United Nigeria Airlines flagged its planned fleet expansion in 2026, stressing the need for matching infrastructure upgrades, while Aero Contractors and ValueJet echoed concerns around crowd management as passenger volumes grow.
MMA2 says the engagements reflect its commitment to safe, efficient and passenger-focused operations, as the terminal prepares for the next phase of growth.
