Air strikes above, boots on the ground — the military is turning up the heat on bandits in Kwara.
The Nigerian military has launched intense air and ground offensives against armed bandits terrorising parts of Ifelodun, Edu and Patigi LGAs of Kwara State, smashing hideouts and scattering criminal gangs.
Security sources say the coordinated operation hit key strongholds in Baba Sango (Ifelodun), Gbugbu Forest (Edu) and Lata community (Patigi), destroying several camps and neutralising many suspected kidnappers and terrorists. Others reportedly fled with gunshot wounds as fighter jets and ground troops closed in.
“Our mission is clear — dismantle their leadership, logistics and operational bases along the Kwara–Niger axis,” a military spokesperson said, stressing that troops are determined to flush out the criminals completely.
The offensive blends precision air bombardment with calculated ground advances, keeping pressure on fleeing bandits as clearance operations expand into nearby forests and border communities.
However, the military raised concern over local informants aiding criminal groups, warning that leaked troop movements are undermining operations. Residents were urged to stay alert and report collaborators.
Community leaders have also been asked to caution residents against shielding criminals, noting that such actions only prolong insecurity and endanger innocent lives.
For now, the message from security forces is firm: operations are ongoing, and peace remains the top priority.
