“No godfathers, just governance.” That’s the mood on the streets of Kano.
Residents across the state are applauding Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for resigning from the NNPP, saying the move gives him full independence to govern, appoint key officials, and deliver on campaign promises without political interference.
From Gwale to Fagge, Hotoro to Bunkure, citizens say Yusuf now looks firmly in charge—free to shape policies, drive development, and possibly align with the centre for greater federal support. Analysts and academics also argue the decision could unlock more federal projects, stronger budget influence, and strategic appointments for Kano.
Many describe the resignation as politically mature and bold, noting that Yusuf exited without rancour and with the state’s interest in mind. Expectations are already rising, especially with hints of a possible move to the APC.
The political shake-up comes with numbers too: 21 state lawmakers, eight Reps members, and 44 council chairmen reportedly exited alongside the governor.
