IT’S KWANKWASIYA, NOT NNPP — ANIEBONAM FIRES BACK ON YUSUF’S EXIT

The resignation drama in Kano just took a sharp turn.

NNPP founder Dr Boniface Aniebonam says Gov. Abba Yusuf did NOT quit the New Nigeria Peoples Party, insisting the governor only resigned from the Kwankwasiya Movement led by Rabiu Kwankwaso.

According to Aniebonam, Yusuf’s resignation letter wasn’t sent to the recognised NNPP National Working Committee, state chairman or ward secretary—but to a Kwankwasiya figure, which the party says it doesn’t recognise. He stressed that NNPP is a registered political party, while Kwankwasiya is merely a pressure group.

He also cited court judgments directing INEC to recognise the Aniebonam-led NNPP leadership, adding that all Kano officials won elections on the NNPP platform—not Kwankwasiya’s red insignia.

Bottom line from Aniebonam: NNPP has no quarrel with Yusuf, but blames the political fallout on Kwankwaso’s “high-handedness,” urging members to stay calm and focused ahead of 2027.
