GAMBARI WARNS: PERSISTENT INSECURITY AND EXCLUSION COULD CRIPPLE NIGERIA

Former Chief of Staff to late President Buhari, Prof. Ibrahim Gambari, has cautioned that ongoing insecurity, inequality, and exclusion in Nigeria could have severe national consequences. Speaking at Al-Qalam University’s 17th Pre-Convocation Lecture in Katsina, Gambari stressed that Nigeria stands at a critical crossroads, tested by demography, climate stress, technology, and geopolitics.

“A divided North within a fractured nation sends a warning: if exclusion, inequality, and insecurity persist, the consequences will be severe,” he said.

Gambari highlighted existing peace committees, youth-led civic tech, and women’s cooperatives as positive steps but warned that their impact depends on integration into durable, accountable institutions. He called for inclusive governance, youth mentorship, and strong community-focused leadership.

He also urged Nigerians to acknowledge past injustices while promoting unity and to strengthen institutions that protect rights, resolve conflicts, and encourage constructive dissent.

“Nigeria cannot afford to sit on the sidelines as the rules of the new world order are written,” Gambari said, urging bold action for a shared and prosperous future.
