KWARA POLY PROTEST: GOV SETS UP PROBE PANEL, RECTOR STEPS ASIDE

After days of tension on campus, Kwara State moves to get answers. Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has approved a three-member panel to investigate the students’ protest that rocked Kwara State Polytechnic, leading to the school’s temporary closure.

The panel, confirmed by the Commissioner for Tertiary Education Saadatu Modibbo-Kawu, will be chaired by the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Senior Sulyman, with Nafisat Buge (Environment Commissioner) and Dr Mercy Shittu (Permanent Secretary, Service Welfare) as members.

They have two weeks to probe the immediate and underlying causes of the protest, review how it was handled, and recommend steps to prevent a repeat while supporting the institution’s growth. Stakeholders will also be consulted.

Meanwhile, the governor has directed the Rector, Dr Abdul Jimoh, to step aside, with the most senior Deputy Rector appointed to act in the interim.
