From coffee farms to global markets, Ethiopia and the UAE are joining forces to make agriculture more resilient, profitable and climate-smart.
The two countries have kicked off a strategic initiative aimed at boosting value addition in Ethiopia’s coffee sector, helping farmers adapt to climate change, and strengthening the country’s export competitiveness. Officials say the focus is on long-term, locally driven solutions, not short-term aid.
Smallholder farmers are set to benefit from modern farming skills, better access to resources, and financial literacy—tools designed to raise productivity, protect livelihoods and grow domestic revenue.
The plan was discussed at a high-level meeting in Addis Ababa led by Ethiopia’s State Minister of Finance, Semereta Sewasew, alongside UAE development partners. Consultations are ongoing to align the project with national priorities, with climate-smart practices, carbon management and efficient water use at the core.
