The Commander of the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF), Maj.-Gen. Saidu Audu, has assured the Borno State Government that Boko Haram and other armed groups operating around the Lake Chad region are nearing defeat.
Audu gave the assurance during a courtesy visit to Governor Babagana Zulum in Maiduguri, describing the fight against insurgents as focused, strategic and increasingly effective. He said MNJTF troops are now taking the battle directly to terrorist enclaves, guided by a comprehensive regional strategy.
According to him, recent operations and collaboration with partner forces show that the end of the insurgency is within reach.
Governor Zulum welcomed the assurance, congratulated Audu on his appointment and reaffirmed Borno’s continued logistical and operational support to the MNJTF. He praised the military for laying the groundwork for peace and development, and urged sustained operations in Lake Chad islands and tumbus, long used as terrorist hideouts.
Zulum expressed confidence in Audu’s leadership, saying it would further strengthen the regional fight against terrorism.
