CHIDOKA HAILS ANYAOKU AT 93, CELEBRATES A LIFE OF QUIET GIANT LEADERSHIP

A tribute to diplomacy, dignity and service

Former Aviation Minister Osita Chidoka has poured glowing praise on Chief Emeka Anyaoku, ex–Commonwealth Secretary-General, as the revered statesman marks his 93rd birthday.

Chidoka described Anyaoku — the Adazie Obosi and senior Ndichie of Obosi — as a lifelong inspiration and role model who built bridges across nations, healed old divisions and led with calm authority. He recalled first meeting Anyaoku as a young boy during a traditional ceremony in 1982, an encounter he says shaped his values and outlook on leadership.

He also lauded Anyaoku’s lasting legacy at home, especially the Emeka and Bunmi Anyaoku Centre in Obosi, dedicated to democracy, human rights, diversity and climate studies. Chidoka noted that Anyaoku’s influence extended into national institutions, including setting the tone for the FRSC Annual Lecture Series.

“Happy 93rd birthday to a true global statesman,” Chidoka said, celebrating Anyaoku as an Igbo icon and a Nigerian the world respects.
