GOAL FEST IN MOROCCO: AFCON 2025 BREAKS ALL-TIME SCORING RECORD

If anyone doubted the attacking firepower of African football, AFCON 2025 has put that debate to rest — emphatically.

Ahead of Sunday’s final, the tournament has already produced 120 goals, setting a new all-time AFCON scoring record and surpassing the previous mark of 119 goals from the 2023 edition in Côte d’Ivoire.

Before then, the record stood at 102 goals, achieved at Egypt 2019 after AFCON expanded from 16 to 24 teams. This time, the goals have kept coming — and they’ve come fast.

Africa’s big hitters have led the charge. Nigeria, Senegal, Morocco and Côte d’Ivoire have dazzled fans with pace, depth and attacking flair, while emerging stars have stepped up alongside established names, proving the continent’s talent pool is deeper than ever.

Morocco’s Brahim Díaz currently tops the scorers’ chart with five goals, closely followed by Mohamed Salah of Egypt and Nigeria’s Victor Osimhen, who both have four.

In fact, just eight of the 24 teams account for 75 of the 120 goals — Nigeria (14), Senegal (12), Côte d’Ivoire (10), Morocco (9), Egypt (9), Algeria (8), Tunisia (7) and Cameroon (6).

With the third-place playoff and final still to come, the goal count — and the Golden Boot race — could climb even higher.

From bold tactics to fearless attacking play, AFCON 2025 has delivered thrilling comebacks, late winners and end-to-end action. Pressure hasn’t killed creativity; it’s fueled it.

Set against the electric atmosphere of Morocco’s stadiums, from Tangier to Rabat, this tournament has done more than break records — it has signaled a new era of confidence and attacking belief in African football.

Numbers don’t lie. AFCON 2025 is already one for the history books.
