No light, no relief — and no end in sight.
Residents of Epe, Lagos, are raising the alarm over a 10-month electricity blackout, calling on Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company (IKEDC) to urgently restore power to the community. The prolonged outage, they say, has crippled businesses, disrupted schooling, and worsened insecurity.
Youth leader Tobi Jaiyesimi said repeated engagements with IKEDC have yielded little, with officials blaming vandalism and the need for community-level intervention. Traders and artisans say they now rely on expensive generators, shrinking profits and deepening hardship.
Others warn that the darkness has affected healthcare delivery, household welfare, and safety at night. Residents are appealing to political leaders, traditional rulers, and stakeholders to step in before the situation worsens.
Epe LGA Chairperson Surah Animashaun says the council is in talks with IKEDC and assures residents that lasting solutions are being worked out.
For now, Epe waits — still in the dark.
