MOROCCO CELEBRATES TEAM SPIRIT AS ATLAS LIONS ROAR INTO AFCON FINAL

Unity, grit, and a hero in goal — Morocco’s Atlas Lions are back in the AFCON 2025 final after a nail-biting 4-2 penalty win over Nigeria in Rabat.

Head Coach Walid Regragui lauded his players and fans, calling the victory a collective achievement built on teamwork and sacrifice.

“We received very touching messages, and they had a big impact on us. I am very proud of my players and our fans,” Regragui said.

The semi-final ended 0-0 after 120 minutes, with Morocco enduring a physically demanding battle but ultimately triumphing thanks to goalkeeper Yassine Bounou, who saved penalties from Samuel Chukwueze and Bruno Onyemaechi, allowing Youssef En-Nesyri to slot the decisive kick.

Bounou, Man of the Match, credited teamwork and fan support for the win:

“The atmosphere was wonderful. The match was very difficult, but the players did what was required. The coach prepared us very well, and my teammates fought together. Our fans gave us extra motivation.”

Regragui also praised Nigeria and Coach Eric Chelle for a disciplined display, showing respect even in victory.

With this win, Morocco sets sights on Sunday’s final against Senegal, aiming to lift the AFCON trophy for the first time in 50 years, since their 1976 triumph.
