END OF AN ERA: NGE MOURNS JOURNALISM ICONS MOHAMMED, AGBESE

Nigeria’s media space is quieter today with the passing of Yakubu Mohammed and Dan Agbese, two giants of journalism and co-founders of the iconic Newswatch Magazine.

In a press release, the Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE) described their deaths as a huge loss to Nigerian journalism, noting that both men were fearless, professional, and deeply committed to press freedom, democracy, and investigative reporting.

The Guild said their sharp commentaries and principled journalism inspired generations and helped strengthen nation-building.

To honour their legacy, the NGE urged journalists nationwide to dedicate a day to reflect and recommit to the core values of journalism — truth, accuracy, fairness, integrity, and accountability.

Signed by Eze Anaba, President, and Onuoha Ukeh, General Secretary, the statement reaffirmed that the best tribute to the duo is upholding the standards they lived for.
