TINUBU APPOINTS OYEDEPO AS DIRECTOR OF PUBLIC PROSECUTIONS

Picture this: a top EFCC prosecutor with 15+ years busting financial crooks gets handpicked by President Tinubu to lead the nation’s public prosecutions—game-changer for cutting outside lawyers and sharpening federal cases?

President Bola Tinubu greenlit the move for Mr. Rotimi Oyedepo, SAN, shifting him from EFCC to the Federal Civil Service as the new Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP). The announcement dropped Tuesday via State House spokesperson Abiodun Oladunjoye, backed by the Federal Civil Service Commission’s nod in the public interest.

Oyedepo steps into the role vacated by retiring DPP Abubakar Babadoko, whose eight-year directorship wraps up December 31. A 2007 University of Ilorin law grad and 2008 Bar call-up, Oyedepo brings serious firepower—he headed EFCC’s Monitoring Unit, shone in the massive P&ID arbitration win against Nigeria, and snagged awards like EFCC Staff of the Year (2014) and Best Financial Crimes Prosecutor (2019).

Expect him to streamline prosecutions, ditch heavy reliance on external counsel, and bring that EFCC edge for more consistent government wins.
