The Nigerian Independent System Operator (NISO) announced Monday that electricity supply has been fully restored across the country following a partial national grid disturbance at 2:01 p.m., with system stability now normalized after tripping multiple generating units and 330 kV transmission lines.
NISO stated from Abuja that investigations into the cause are underway, linking the fragility to a Dec. 10 vandalism of the Lagos-Escravos-Lagos gas pipeline that slashed power generation; Delta Thermal Power Station isolated in “island mode” to sustain 114 MW to Oghara, Amukpe, Benin, and Efunrun substations via Osogbo’s National Control Centre.
The operator pledged preventive measures and reaffirmed commitment to proactive grid management amid recurring vulnerabilities – no casualties reported, but the blackout underscores Nigeria’s chronic infrastructure strains. Further updates expected.
