NECA SLAMS SACHET ALCOHOL BAN: JOBS & ECONOMY AT RISK

Banning cheap booze in sachets sounds noble, but NECA warns it’ll unleash smugglers and torch jobs especially with Nigeria’s 1,000+ porous borders begging for trouble.

Director-General Wale Smatt-Oyerinde fired off at a Tuesday Lagos briefing: “A blanket ban isn’t the solution it threatens investments and unemployment we can’t afford.” Instead of job losses and police headaches, he pushed strengthening schools, social systems, and institutions. “Where do lost jobs go? We’re ignoring business fallout and investor signals,” he stressed.

Smatt-Oyerinde urged stakeholder chats for win-win fixes, praising 2025’s economic reforms for macro stability while eyeing 2026 micro gains. NECA and labour will keep bridging gaps for a profitable Naija.
