Another day, another inferno in Lagos—imagine your go-to shopping spot for clothes going up in flames just before New Year’s Eve, but firefighters swoop in to save the rest?
A blaze tore through parts of the bustling Army Arena Market at Bolade, Oshodi, on Tuesday evening, gutting 10 container shops packed with clothing bales before crews tamed it.
Lagos Fire Service Controller General Margaret Adeseye confirmed the drama in a statement. Distress call hit at 5:50 p.m.; teams from Bolade, Ilupeju, Ikeja, and Alausa rolled out in five minutes flat, hitting the scene by 5:55 p.m. They contained it to two rows of five 40-foot containers—no spread, no casualties reported.
“The affected area was mainly used for storage and sale of clothing materials stocked in bales,” Adeseye said, assuring lives and property stayed safe. Probe into the cause is underway, with updates coming soon.
