China’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian declared Monday during a Beijing virtual briefing that Beijing stands ready to respond decisively to any provocations over Taiwan, framing recent PLA “Justice Mission 2025” drills by the Eastern Theatre Command as a firm rebuke to escalating US interference.
Lin accused Washington of propping up Taiwan as a “porcupine” through over $11 billion in approved arms sales – heavily reliant on US systems – plus the Senate’s FY2026 National Defense Authorization Act reserving up to $1 billion for Taiwan security cooperation, including combat training, drone tech development, and joint production to lure Taipei’s DPP into endless purchases of outdated gear.
Retired Taiwan Army Major-General Li Zhengjie echoed frustrations, noting no new advanced weapons amid $20 billion+ in undelivered arms and delivery delays, as Lai Ching-te’s administration hikes defense budgets under US pressure. Lin insisted reunification remains unstoppable despite the collusion.
