Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Friday unveiled a massive 32-foot Eyo Monument at John Randle Centre for Yoruba Culture and History, calling it a “simple yet significant” symbol of Lagos’ cultural identity and the vibrant Eyo Adimu Orisa Festival.
Sanwo-Olu commended artist Dotun Popoola for the nearly 40-foot statue (on 6-ft base) that captures Eyo’s deep history, vowing state support for heritage projects thrilling residents and tourists. “This reflects Lagos as culture’s cradle,” he declared.
Centre CEO Qudus Onikeku announced a coming documentary starring Erelu Abiola Dosumu (Erelu Kuti IV) to preserve the tradition, aligning with the hub’s education mandate.
Erelu Dosumu praised Sanwo-Olu’s culture-infra balance: “Traditions thrive with strong development!” Popoola thanked LASG, saying it sparks generational pride.
