CATHOLIC LAWYERS FREE 150 INMATES VIA FREE LEGAL AID IN 2025 – NACL LAGOS

Catholic legal eagles from the National Association of Catholic Lawyers (NACL) Lagos chapter turned Christmas cheer into real freedom at Ikoyi Correctional Centre Friday, revealing they secured the release of 150 inmates through pro bono services this year alone – while dishing out gifts and sacraments to inspire reform.

NACL President Mrs. Florence Atuluku dropped the impact stats during the annual yuletide bash attended by inmates, centre bosses, and Lagos Archbishop Most Rev. Alfred Adewale Martins – complete with Mass, 25 confirmations, and truckloads of rice, clothes, cash, toiletries, and edu aids from Prison Apostolate, CWO, and more.

Atuluku called it “re-engineering redeeming values,” spotlighting how they scour records for trial delays and minor cases to win bail/freedom – no charge. “Wasted potentials hit hard; many outside share similar failings but got lucky with privilege,” she reflected, vowing 2026 ramp-up to decongest facilities further.

Humanitarian justice in action amid Naija’s prison crisis (80k+ inmates, many awaiting trial).
