KEBBI LAUNCHES FORTIFIED RICE MILL TO FIGHT HIDDEN HUNGER

Kebbi State Gov Nasir Idris kicked off fortified rice production Thursday at Takalau Rice Mill in Birnin Kebbi, pumping out nutrient-packed grains laced with iron, zinc, folic acid and B-vitamins to shield low-income families from micronutrient shortfalls—positioning the state as a milling powerhouse while slashing malnutrition in Nigeria’s food basket.

Standing in for the gov, Agric Commissioner Shehu Muazu hailed it as a lifeline for the masses, thanking WFP and TechnoServe backers; first lady Hajiya Nasare Idris (via Aisha Usman) vowed sustained nutrition drives, as mill upgrades like sortex machines and graders promise top-shelf output for local farmers.

GAIN’s Sani Isyaku, WFP’s Owen Osaigbevo-Iniobong and TechnoServe’s Seun Elere cheered the bold move, linking fortified eats to poverty busts, healthier kids and economic lifts—proving Kebbi’s rice revolution could spark nationwide food security wins if scaled.
