WOMEN’S HEALTH LEADERS DEMAND GENDER EQUITY AT THE TOP

Health sector heavyweights rallied in Abuja Wednesday at the EmpowerHer Health Fellowship graduation, slamming Nigeria’s leadership gap where women deliver 70% of care but stay sidelined—pushing for more female voices in decision rooms to unlock half our talent pool and supercharge resilient systems.

Women in Global Health Nigeria co-founder Dr Peju Adeniran kicked off the gala, hailing the one-year program that armed 24 fellows across advocacy, research, leadership and digital branding with mentorship to shatter barriers; Pathfinder’s Dr Amina Dorayi urged grit without silent suffering, while project officer Bukola Shaba spotlighted global underrepresentation and ongoing 2026 support for these vets, journalists and pros driving maternal, reproductive and One Health wins.

Fellows like Dr Bolanle Akanbi (vetting animal-rearing women’s disease risks for better income/mental health) and journalist Bilkis Lawal (pushing maternal advocacy in local tongues) vowed amplified change via networks and social media—proving empowered women equals equitable, stronger health for all.
