PRESIDENCY TO HONOUR RETIRING STAFF YEARLY, ENDS ‘SILENT EXIT’ ERA

The State House is changing the script for civil servants’ retirement, as Permanent Secretary Temitope Fashedemi says the Presidency will now hold annual honours for outgoing staff so they no longer “end their careers in silence” after decades of quiet service.

Speaking at a reception for retirees in Aso Rock, he said the new tradition will run every year, with each retiree getting a tangible gift and a proper send‑off, in line with ongoing public service reforms that put staff welfare, recognition and reward at the centre. He urged retirees to stay connected, mentor serving officers and share their institutional memory, insisting “we must mark exits with gratitude, not indifference” after 35 years of work.

The move aligns with the Federal Civil Service Strategy and Implementation Plan 2025, while retirees like Dr Acho Terungwa used the forum to urge closer attention to State House Clinic conditions, even as officials said the medical centre is rebuilding its reputation through stronger teamwork and support from senior management.
