The mighty Oba of Benin, Uku Akpolokpolo Ewuare II, lit the spark for the 2025 Igue festival Monday with the time-honored Ugierhoba ceremony at the sacred Ugharhoba enclave in the palace—bridging ancestral spirits to modern Benin vibes through solitary prayers, family tributes and ritual sacrifices that recharge the kingdom’s soul.
Chief Press Secretary Osaigbovo Iguobaro revealed how the Oba honored forebears at Ugha-Ozolua, then led a procession where palace groups like Ihogbe, Ehondor, Ifiento and Ewaise chiefs laid out stewardship reports amid animal offerings—praying solo for guidance, renewal, royal welfare, Benin prosperity and Nigeria’s peace.
Joined by his kids and kin, the Oba’s commanding aura fired up the traditional drummers, weaving past legacies into present strength—proving Igue’s “Ugie” magic keeps Benin’s heritage pulsing strong.
