Lagos Police have detained 20-year-old social media influencer Habeeb Hamzat, better known as Peller, after a viral video showed him driving recklessly and crashing his car while livestreaming to followers.
Police spokesperson SP Abimbola Adebisi said the Sunday incident caused a serious accident that endangered both Peller and other road users, describing his actions as a deliberate suicide attempt and a grave threat to public safety. The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for investigation, with plans to charge him in court once inquiries are concluded.
Commissioner of Police Olohundare Jimoh used the case to warn influencers and the public against using social media to glamorise dangerous or unlawful behaviour, vowing to apply the full weight of the law on offenders while urging strict obedience to traffic rules to keep Lagos roads safe.
