The 17th Best of Nollywood (BON) Awards lit up Lagos’ National Arts Theatre on Sunday, crowning “Farmers Bride” as Movie of the Year and its director the top honoree, while Femi Adebayo’s “Seven Doors” swept technical gongs like Best Production Design, Special Effects, Series and Cinematography—proof Nollywood’s leveling up on global polish.
Acting fireworks saw Gideon Okeke snag Best Actor for “Black Out,” Padita Agu claim Best Actress, Mercy Aigbe shine in supporting for “My Mother Is a Witch,” and Taye Ayimoro grab supporting actor in “Son of the Soil”—plus Tobi Bakre and Folu Storms’ steamy Best Kiss in “Red Cycle.” Emerging stars Razaq Adoti and Una Idoko broke through as Most Promising, with Abanisete nabbing Best Indigenous Film, and icons like Steve Ayorinde, Funke Akindele and Dr Shaibu Husseini earning Special Recognition for fueling the industry’s fire.
