FRENCH AMBASSADOR: TRADITION CAN SMASH GBV, INCLUDING ONLINE ABUSE

French Ambassador to Nigeria Marc Fonbaustier lit up Abuja Thursday, declaring tradition isn’t frozen—it’s a dynamic force to challenge violence, rethink norms and build balanced societies, spotlighting the end of 2025’s 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence under the UNiTE theme “Unite to End Digital Violence Against All Women and Girls.”

Wrapping a whirlwind campaign with 20+ events across 11 states via 11 CSOs, the embassy pushed the punchy slogan “No gree for violence—No gree for GBV,” urging everyone to reject abuse at home, in streets or online—featuring the Igbo-inspired show ‘Nwanyibuife’ (woman is light) to prove culture sparks real change.

Women Affairs Minister Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim (via PS Esuabana Asanye) hailed the push, vowing year-round advocacy even post-Dec. 10, as performers Gerald Eze and Emmanuel Osahor drove home that silencing women anywhere dooms society—fightback starts now, from laws to the internet.
