Panic struck Karabonde community in Borgu LGA when a Nigerian Air Force Alpha Jet crashed on Saturday during a post-inspection flight from Kainji Air Force Base. The two pilots ejected safely just moments before the aircraft exploded in flames.
Witnesses saw the jet flying unusually low, trailing smoke and fire before it went down in thick bushes. The crash triggered a loud blast, sending locals fleeing for safety.
Niger State’s Lapai TV captured the scene of the burning wreckage, while the Nigerian Air Force praised the crew’s “exceptional professionalism” for steering clear of populated areas before ejecting. Both pilots are now under routine medical checks.
The Air Chief has ordered an inquiry into the cause as the Air Force reassures the public that safety and civilian protection are top priorities.
