ENUGU TEACHERS TRAINED TO FIGHT CHILD TRAFFICKING IN SCHOOLS

The International Centre for Migration Policy Development (ICMPD) just empowered Enugu State teachers with a two-day workshop on the new National Curriculum tackling Trafficking in Persons (TIP), aiming to shield kids from this growing menace right in classrooms.

Funded by the Netherlands and run with NAPTIP, the STEAP project trains educators across Enugu, Delta, Edo, Benue, and Ogun to spot risks, teach prevention, and become anti-trafficking champions—since over 75% of West African victims are children under 18.

ICMPD’s Isabelle Wolfsgruber and NAPTIP’s Dr. Binta Bello stressed embedding TIP education early, turning schools into safe zones and building resilient communities through practical tools and awareness.

Enugu officials like Caroline Avah and Patrick Ochie pledged full state backing for arrests, prosecutions, and child protection.
