COURT JAILS MAN FOR FIVE YEARS FOR SLITTING THROAT IN STREET ATTACK

A Kwara State High Court in Ilorin has sentenced Abdullateef Yakub to five years behind bars after finding him guilty of attempting to kill Abubakar Babatunde by slitting his throat during a violent incident at Shao Garage on December 26, 2023.

Justice I. Olawoyin, after hearing compelling accounts from the victim and other witnesses, ruled that Yakub was guilty of attempted culpable homicide and causing grievous hurt. The sentences of five years for culpable homicide and three years (or fine) for grievous hurt will run concurrently.

Kwara’s Attorney General, Senior Ibrahim Sulyman, praised the verdict, emphasizing it as a firm stand against violence and a reassurance to residents that offenders will face justice promptly.
