Daniel Igali, President of the Nigeria Wrestling Federation (NWF), is pushing hard for investing in young wrestlers to secure Nigeria’s future wins on the global mat. Speaking in Abuja, he revealed exciting upgrades for the 4th Governor Douye Diri National Wrestling Championship, set for December 12-20 in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State.
Igali, also Bayelsa’s Sports Commissioner, announced they’ve bumped up weight categories from 12 to 15 each in women’s, Greco-Roman, and men’s freestyle, plus five new ones for under-15s – all to spotlight the next generation. For the first time, beach wrestling joins with four weight classes for men and women, making this the glitziest edition yet at Samson Siasia Stadium and Bayelsa Medical University grounds.
Hosted by Bayelsa State Government with NWF, Governor Douye Diri’s backing promises top-notch organization since the event’s start in 2009. Delegates arrive December 12, with action kicking off December 14 – Igali’s confident it’ll shine brighter than ever.
