Kaduna State just fired up the fight against online abuse with a powerhouse roundtable on Wednesday, teaming up the Ministry of Women Affairs, SPRiNG programme, and Tetra Tech to spotlight the 2025 16 Days of Activism theme: ‘Unite to End Digital Violence Against All Women and Girls’. This comes amid exploding cyberbullying, stalking, and hate speech that’s silencing women online nationwide.
SPRiNG rep Emmanuel Barau called out digital threats as a massive barrier for North-West communities, backed by their FCDO-funded push for peace and zero-tolerance on discrimination. Consultant Magdaline Musa nailed it: Social media’s turned into a harassment hotspot, crushing women’s voices – time for stakeholders to make cyberspace safe and empowering.
Keynote star Juliana Joseph from Kakuri’s Sexual Assault Referral Centre dropped stats from a 2024 Gatefield report: 58% of Nigerian women hit by online abuse like cyberstalking and impersonation. She slammed hurdles like low reporting, stigma, weak laws, and spotty responses, urging fixes: Policy overhauls, digital literacy in schools, platform accountability, and beefed-up funding.
Ministry rep Umar Abubakar recommitted to shielding women and kids through community teamwork, as the event ramps up global GBV awareness from Nov 25 to Dec 10.
