CHINA-NIGERIA FILM TIES SOAR AT ZUMA FESTIVAL WITH “ROOTING” PREMIERE

China and Nigeria just cranked up their cultural vibes at the buzzing Zuma International Film Festival in Abuja, screening the award-winning Chinese doc “Rooting” – a four-year tale of a Yunnan villager’s poverty escape that hits home for Nigeria’s own development dreams.

Cultural Counselor Yang Jianxing hailed it as a “dialogue between civilisations,” thanking Nigerian Film Corporation, festival bosses, and China Harbour Engineering for bridging worlds. He shouted out Nollywood’s powerhouse status – world’s #2 with 2,500 films yearly – and teased more: Space doc “SHENZHOU 13” next, eyeing deeper ties in the 2026 China-Africa exchange year after their 2024 strategic pact.

China Harbour’s MD Wang Wenfei spotlighted their 30-year Nigerian legacy like Lekki Deep Seaport, calling film a human connector. NFC’s Ali Nuhu cheered the collab as a hotbed for innovation at ZIFF’s 15th edition (Dec 1-5), drawing global creatives amid 3,156 entries.
