China and Nigeria just cranked up their cultural vibes at the buzzing Zuma International Film Festival in Abuja, screening the award-winning Chinese doc “Rooting” – a four-year tale of a Yunnan villager’s poverty escape that hits home for Nigeria’s own development dreams.
Cultural Counselor Yang Jianxing hailed it as a “dialogue between civilisations,” thanking Nigerian Film Corporation, festival bosses, and China Harbour Engineering for bridging worlds. He shouted out Nollywood’s powerhouse status – world’s #2 with 2,500 films yearly – and teased more: Space doc “SHENZHOU 13” next, eyeing deeper ties in the 2026 China-Africa exchange year after their 2024 strategic pact.
China Harbour’s MD Wang Wenfei spotlighted their 30-year Nigerian legacy like Lekki Deep Seaport, calling film a human connector. NFC’s Ali Nuhu cheered the collab as a hotbed for innovation at ZIFF’s 15th edition (Dec 1-5), drawing global creatives amid 3,156 entries.
