NAMIBIAN POLITICIAN DUMPS “HITLER” FROM NAME AHEAD OF RE-ELECTION WIN

Adolf Hitler Uunona, the Oshana Region councillor whose infamous name went viral years ago, has officially changed it to Adolf Uunona to escape constant Nazi comparisons he never asked for. The SWAPO party stalwart, serving since 2004 with landslide victories like 85% in 2020, told The Namibian his father picked the name unaware of its dark history from Namibia’s German colonial past (1884-1915)—now he’s done with the stigma just before securing a fifth term.

Uunona stressed he’s no ideologue: “My name is not Adolf Hitler, I am Adolf Uunona,” emphasizing voters judge him on infrastructure, accessibility, and local development, not the moniker.
