LUTH DIRECTOR URGES PARENTS: TREAT BOYS & GIRLS EQUALLY TO CRUSH GBV AT ITS ROOTS

Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH) Social Services Director Ms Titilayo Tade, speaking at Inner Wheel District 911’s 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence (Nov 25-Dec 10), slammed families favoring boys—loading them with entitlement while girls slave over chores—as the core driver of GBV, demanding equal treatment to instill respect and morals from home. Tade warned entitled boys grow into abusers lacking dignity for women, urging parents to foster loving environments where every child thrives equally for safer societies.

Clinical Psychologist Mr Olumide Okeowo highlighted GBV’s scars: physical injuries/fractures/death, plus lifelong depression, isolation, drug abuse, and shattered self-esteem from school/home/office violence.

Lagos pushes gender equity via initiatives like DSVA’s Kings/Queens Clubs training peer advocates against SGBV.
