SENATE DEMANDS PROBE INTO MILITARY WITHDRAWAL BEFORE KEBBI SCHOOL ATTACK AND GEN. MUSA UBA’S DEATH

The Nigerian Senate has ordered its joint security committee to investigate the suspicious withdrawal of troops from Government Girls Secondary School in Maga, Kebbi, just before bandits invaded, as well as the killing of Brig.-Gen. Musa Uba by ISWAP militants in Borno after an ambush. The committee must report back in two weeks, while the Senate dissolves and reconstitutes its National Security and Air Force committees.

Senate Deputy Leader Lola Ashiru’s motion highlighted escalating insecurity in Kwara, Kebbi, and Niger, urging sustained rescues, stronger vigilante groups, firearm law reviews for citizen ownership like in 175 countries, and diplomatic pushes with the US for intelligence and training. The chamber commended President Tinubu and security forces for recent victim rescues without ransom payments, observed a minute’s silence for the fallen, and tasked leadership to brief the President.

Deputy Senate President Jibrin Barau linked rising attacks to foreign narratives on Christian genocide, calling for tech deployment against convoy-moving terrorists. Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele celebrated lives saved amid debates on rescue costs.
