NIRA REAFFIRMS COMMITMENT TO SECURE NIGERIA’S DIGITAL SPACE, COLLABORATES WITH GOVERNMENT AND GLOBAL BODIES

The Nigeria Internet Registration Association (NiRA) reiterated its unwavering dedication to safeguarding Nigeria’s digital environment and working closely with government agencies to combat cybercrime and misuse of digital resources. NiRA President Mr. Adesola Akinsanya disclosed that the association actively partners with bodies including NITDA, NCC, ONSA, and law enforcement to discourage internet fraud.

Akinsanya clarified the distinction between IP addresses, managed by AFRINIC, and domain names managed by NiRA, emphasizing NiRA’s rigorous internal controls like multi-layer verification and registrar compliance to prevent fraudulent domain registrations. NiRA monitors Domain Name System (DNS) abuse closely and acts swiftly with relevant agencies on suspicious activities.

Beyond enforcement, NiRA invests in public awareness, capacity building, and digital ethics promotion. It is also advancing adoption of Domain Name System Security Extension (DNSSEC) for enhanced domain security. The association is committed to fostering innovation, collaboration, digital sovereignty, and positioning the .NG domain as a symbol of credibility and national pride.
