Inuwa Yahaya, Governor of Gombe State, has approved a N500 million matching fund to procure Ready-to-Use Therapeutic Food (RUTF) in collaboration with UNICEF, aiming to strengthen the state’s response to severe acute malnutrition. Ismaila Uba-Misilli, Director-General of Press Affairs in Gombe, highlighted that this intervention under the Child Nutrition Fund will expand access to treatment for malnourished children across communities.
Gombe has consistently met nutrition counterpart funding obligations, reflecting the government’s commitment to child health, especially for those under five years old. Sustained funding has driven improvements in child survival and health outcomes by bolstering nutrition services and reducing preventable childhood illnesses.
RUTF is widely used in community-based management of severe acute malnutrition, allowing children including those in remote areas with limited health facility access to recover safely. Governor Yahaya’s investment aligns with strategies to lower child mortality, promote early development, and ensure no child suffers from treatable malnutrition due to lack of resources.
