Lafoucriere, Chief of UNICEF Lagos Field Office, spearheaded the 2025 World Children’s Day celebration at the Lagos State House of Assembly, stressing the urgent need for lawmakers to focus on children’s rights to identity, protection, education, health, and nutrition. With the theme “My Day, My Right,” the event called for turning children’s stories into impactful policies.
Lafoucriere praised Lagos for progress in birth registration and highlighted UNICEF’s partnership with state ministries to remove barriers for inclusive quality education. She underscored that child protection must extend beyond classrooms into homes and communities, and urged creating a safe environment where every child can thrive.
Lagos Assembly leaders committed to reviewing and addressing the issues, while calling on children to aim high, avoid drugs, and realize their potential. The event featured powerful children’s voices expressing needs in education, sanitation, health, and innovation, reflecting hopeful futures shaped by committed advocacy.
