PRESIDENT TINUBU ORDERS MINISTER BELLO MATAWALLE TO RELOCATE TO KEBBI TO MONITOR RESCUE EFFORTS FOR ABDUCTED SCHOOLGIRLS

President Bola Tinubu has directed the Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, to relocate to Kebbi State following the abduction of 24 schoolgirls from Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School in Maga town. Matawalle, expected to arrive in Birni-Kebbi on Friday, brings valuable experience from his tenure as Zamfara State governor from 2019 to 2023, a period marked by several mass kidnappings including the 2021 abduction of 279 schoolgirls in Jangebe, Zamfara.

The president postponed his scheduled trips to South Africa and Angola to await security updates on the Kebbi kidnappings and a related attack on worshippers in Eruku, Kwara State. Matawalle’s relocation aims to provide direct oversight on security operations to ensure the safe release of the abducted students and strengthen local security coordination.
