Nigeria is on fire at the 6th Islamic Solidarity Games in Riyadh, boosting its gold medal tally with stunning wins in Wrestling and the Women’s 4 x 100m relay. Christiana Ogunsanya dominated the 53kg freestyle Wrestling final with an 11-1 victory over Uzbekistan’s Shokhida Akhmedova. The Nigerian women’s relay team Bada Toyin, Ezechukwu Miracle, Omokwe Maria, and Nweke Cynthia sealed a thrilling gold in the 4 x 100m final with a blazing 44.27 seconds, outrunning Bahrain and The Gambia.
Team Nigeria didn’t stop there, adding two silver and three bronze medals across events. Highlights included bronzes in Men’s Javelin (Kure Adams) and Men’s 400m (Badmus Atanda), and silvers in Women’s 400m (Patience George) and Women’s 50kg Wrestling (Miesinnei Genesis).
National Sports Commission’s Special Adviser, Bukola Olapade, praised the athletes’ focus and dedication, promising consistent support and more international exposure to keep Nigeria thriving on the podium.
Nigeria’s medal haul now stands at 8 gold, 10 silver, and 7 bronze, with more expected from Para athletics and Para-powerlifting events.
