The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has issued a stern warning to the Nigerian government to act swiftly and arrest those behind the recent mass kidnapping of 25 schoolgirls in Kebbi. Dr. Tony Ojukwu, NHRC’s Executive Secretary, condemned the attack and emphasized the rising trend of violence that threatens the country’s security and the right to education.
He described the abduction as a gross violation of human rights and called for immediate investigations, prosecution of culprits, and support for the victims’ families. Ojukwu stressed that every life is valuable, and the continued attacks on schools and places of worship undermine Nigeria’s constitution and international human rights commitments.
The incident has sparked widespread outrage, prompting the presidency to send a high-level delegation to Kebbi and increasing efforts for rescue. The NHRC pledges to continue monitoring the situation and urging the government to take decisive action to safeguard children and restore peace.
