The Defence Headquarters has launched an investigation into allegations that soldiers guarding Government Girls’ Comprehensive Secondary School, Maga, in Kebbi State were withdrawn shortly before bandits abducted 25 students. Director of Defence Media Operations Michael Onoja confirmed the probe, saying a thorough review of troop movements on the day of the attack is underway.
The inquiry follows concerns by Governor Nasir Idris that the attackers struck just 30 minutes after troops left their posts—an issue demanding urgent answers. Onoja emphasized that operational decisions are intelligence-driven, and any identified lapses will be immediately addressed.
Troops remain focused on rescue missions, pursuing all actionable intelligence to secure the safe return of the abducted girls. The military has reiterated its commitment to protecting citizens and preventing future security failures.
