MEDIA AND CHILDREN’S ADVOCATES TO GATHER FOR SYMPOSIUM ON SAFEGUARDING NIGERIAN CHILDREN’S FUTURE

The Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE), Diamond Awards for Media Excellence (DAME), and UNICEF are partnering to host a one-day symposium on November 25, 2025, at the Lagos Sheraton Hotel, Ikeja. The event will unite media leaders, policymakers, and child-rights advocates to evaluate Nigeria’s readiness to protect and prepare its children for the future.

Titled “Equipping the Nigerian Child for the Future: How Prepared Are We?”, the dialogue comes as millions of Nigerian children face mounting challenges in education, nutrition, health, safety, and climate emergencies. Highlighting recent threats such as attacks on schools, malnutrition, displacement, and environmental risks, the symposium aims to craft practical solutions that ensure safe learning spaces, strengthen welfare systems, and promote child-focused, ethical media reporting.

UNICEF emphasizes that children bear the heaviest burdens of insecurity and poverty despite contributing least to the crises, hoping that this strategic dialogue will foster stronger partnerships and evidence-based policymaking to guarantee every Nigerian child the chance to thrive.
