LAGOS CALLS ON YOUTH TO REVITALIZE BRICKLAYING INDUSTRY AND UPHOLD PROFESSIONAL STANDARDS

The Lagos State Government has issued a rallying call to its youth to actively participate in the construction sector, emphasizing that many bricklayers are now in their sixties. During the closing of the 2025 Bricklayers Week, Lagos Commissioner for Youth and Social Development, Mr. Mobolaji Ogunlende, praised the older bricklayers for laying a strong foundation and urged young people to build upon their legacy.

The event, organized by the Lagos State Bricklayers Association, also celebrated the increasing participation of women in the trade. Ogunlende assured ongoing support from the Lagos State Employment Trust Fund and other initiatives geared towards youth empowerment and development.

Additionally, the association’s president, Mr. Oyebamiji Dauda, called for greater support from corporate partners like the Dangote Group, including branding and employment opportunities for youth and members’ children.

In response, the Lagos Regional Director of Dangote Cement, Mr. Tunde Mabogunje, reaffirmed the company’s view of bricklayers as vital partners and expressed willingness to expand support, especially for women in the profession.

The event also featured awards to senior members and presented opportunities for young individuals to upgrade their skills, aiming to bolster professionalism and safety standards in Lagos’s construction industry.
