A Kaduna Chief Magistrates’ Court on Thursday sentenced Kingsley Timothy, 23, to 15 strokes of the cane for stealing two phones valued at N650,000 from a church. Kingsley, from Narayi, pleaded guilty to theft and begged for leniency.
Magistrate Ibrahim Emmanuel warned Kingsley to desist from crime, saying the court would be less lenient if he offends again. The theft was reported by Richard Samuel of Christ Life Ministry to Narayi Police on November 15. Police caught and arrested Kingsley shortly after.
The case violated Section 217 of Kaduna State Penal Code, 2017—a clear message that crime won’t be tolerated especially within places of worship.
