The Northern States Governors’ Forum (NSGF) has strongly condemned the recent attack on Government Girls’ Comprehensive Senior Secondary School (GGCSS), Maga, in Danko/Wasagu Local Government Area of Kebbi that resulted in the abduction of 25 female students and the reported killing of a school official.
Speaking from Gombe, NSGF Chairman and Governor Inuwa Yahaya described the incident as tragic, senseless, and totally unacceptable. He warned that ongoing attacks on schools seriously threaten regional stability and the future of education in Nigeria.
In a statement on behalf of his colleagues, Yahaya extended condolences to Kebbi state, especially to the families of the kidnapped girls and those who lost their lives. He assured Governor Nasir Idris of the forum’s full solidarity and support.
He stressed that schools must be safe learning spaces, not targets for violence, cautioning that repeated assaults risk erasing progress made in increasing school enrollment and reducing out-of-school children in the north.
Yahaya expressed deep concern for the trauma faced by the abducted students and called for swift, coordinated action by security forces to rescue them and bring the criminals to justice.
The NSGF reaffirmed its commitment to working with the Federal Government and security agencies, prioritizing the safety, education, and well-being of young Nigerians. He also urged communities to stay vigilant and support security efforts in fighting crime.
